Chandigarh:  Accused Were in Contact with Dubai-Based Handler Through Virtual Numbers; ₹21,800 Drug Money Recovered In a major breakthrough under the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an international cross-border narco-smuggling network. Two accused have been arrested and 7.6 kilograms of heroin along with ₹21,800 in drug money has been recovered from their possession, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sahibpreet Singh alias Sahib (19), a native of Fatehgarh Churian in Batala and currently residing in Chheharta, Amritsar, and Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan (26), a resident of Guru Nanakpura in Kot Khalsa, Amritsar. Both accused have previous criminal records, including cases registered under the Arms Act and for snatching-related offences.

DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were in contact with a Dubai-based handler through virtual numbers. He further disclosed that the Dubai-based handler is linked to multiple narcotics networks and has also surfaced in a major NDPS case involving the recovery of 43 kilograms of heroin.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that acting on specific and credible intelligence inputs, police teams conducted a well-planned operation leading to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of the contraband and drug money. During the investigation, it also came to light that the Dubai-based handler has been operating multiple narcotics networks.

Further investigations are underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of the network and to dismantle the entire syndicate.

In this regard, FIR No. 29 dated 11.02.2026 has been registered under Sections 21-C, 25, and 27-A of the NDPS Act at Police Station Chheharta, Amritsar.
