Varjeet Walia Assumes Charge as Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner

Jalandhar : Varjeet Walia, a 2018-batch IAS officer, officially assumed charge as the Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar at the District Administrative Complex on Friday morning, following a ceremonial guard of honour by the police contingent. Welcomed by senior district officials, Mr. Walia outlined his primary mission: the effective implementation of the Punjab Government’s flagship welfare schemes, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to ensure benefits reach the grassroots level. During his initial meeting with administrative staff, he emphasized the need for dedicated service to ensure government initiatives percolate to every section of society. Speaking to the media, the new DC identified grievance redressal, infrastructure strengthening, and the establishment of a transparent, accountable administrative mechanism as his key focus areas. Notably, Mr. Walia brings prior local experience to the role, having completed a year of field training in Jalandhar while contributing to COVID-19 and flood management efforts. Acknowledging Jalandhar’s significance as a hub for sports, industry, media, and NRIs, he reiterated his commitment to the welfare of all citizens.
