Chandigarh: Sumeet Kumar Jarangal, a senior IAS officer of the 2009 batch from the Punjab cadre, has been empaneled for appointment to the post of Joint Secretary or equivalent at the Centre. This empanelment signifies that he is now eligible to be posted at this high-level rank within the Government of India.

According to the notification issued on April 8, Jarangal’s name has been included in the prestigious list. Having served in several key positions in Punjab, Jarangal has previously proven his administrative mettle as Deputy Commissioner (DC) in various districts and as the Director of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) for the state government.

Currently, Sumeet Jarangal is already on central deputation, serving as the Director of Start Up India. Notably, his wife, Isha Kalia, is also serving as a Joint Secretary at the Centre.

What is Empanelment? The central empanelment process selects top-tier officers based on their tenure and administrative experience. Jarangal’s inclusion in this list is a matter of pride for the Punjab cadre, as he will now become part of the core structure of central administration. Along with him, another officer from the Punjab cadre, Gauri Parashar Joshi (2009 batch), has also been included in this prestigious empanelment list.
