New Delhi(Manmohan Singh): The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee organised a marathon today from India Gate to Gurdwara Sri Rakab Ganj Sahib, marking the culmination of the 350th martyrdom anniversary commemorations of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. The event sought to promote health awareness among young people while deepening their connection with Guru Sahib’s unparalleled sacrifice, profound philosophy, and universal message of service to all humanity.

DSGMC President Sardar Harmeet Singh Kalka and general secretary Sardar Jagdeep Singh Kahlon praised the remarkable enthusiasm of the participants, noting that the number of children and young people who joined the marathon was three times higher than anticipated. Both dsgmc leaders described this response as an encouraging indication of the younger
generation’s growing commitment to health, fitness, and its spiritual heritage.

The leaders observed that such enthusiastic participation in initiatives commemorating Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji reflects a promising future for society.
Both leaders emphasised that guru sahib’s martyrdom remains an unparalleled sacrifice in human history, made in defence of religious freedom, human rights, and the right to practise one’s faith. By laying down his life to uphold his principles and protect human dignity, Guru Sahib conveyed an enduring message of fearlessness, tolerance, and the safeguarding of human rights to the entire world.

They further stated that the marathon was not merely a fitness activity, but a meaningful tribute to guru sahib’s supreme sacrifice and an effort to connect the younger generation with Sikh history and gurmat principles. The marathon began at India Gate and proceeded along Ashoka Road before concluding at Gurdwara Sri Rakab Ganj Sahib, with participants singing the praises of Guru Sahib along the route.

Sardar Kalka and Sardar Kahlon added that, as part of the 350th martyrdom anniversary commemorations, the DSGMC would organise a series of religious and historical programmes in the coming period. These will include nagar kirtans, special Gurmat congregations, and a grand three-day programme at the Red Fort.

Both leaders appealed to the Sikh community to participate wholeheartedly in these commemorative events and draw inspiration from Guru Sahib’s life, philosophy, and sacrifice. They urged everyone to carry the message of selfless service to humanity, mutual harmony, and religious tolerance into every household.

The leaders concluded that the overwhelming participation of young people in innovative initiatives such as the marathon demonstrates their eagerness to reconnect with their history and heritage. This enthusiasm, they said, will play a vital role in transmitting the timeless message of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s martyrdom to future generations.
