Patiala: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Tuesday fulfilled his earlier promise by handing over a copy of the Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill, 2026 to the Sangat of the Samana Tower Morcha.

Addressing the gathering, Sandhwan said that such commitments are fulfilled only with the blessings of the Guru, and as promised, he personally handed over the bill copy to Bhai Gurjit Singh Khalsa and the Sangat. He appealed to Bhai Gurjit Singh Khalsa to come down from the tower in the larger interest of the community.

The announcement of the bill’s passage by the Punjab Government was welcomed with loud cheers from the Morcha stage. Sandhwan expressed gratitude to the Sangat and credited their support and blessings for enabling the government, led by Bhagwant Singh Mann, to pass this “historic” legislation.

He assured that the government will make all efforts to secure the Governor’s approval without delay, emphasizing that the bill has been drafted carefully and is stricter than previous laws on sacrilege. He added that there should be no politicization of the issue, as the law aims to ensure strict punishment, including life imprisonment, for those involved in sacrilege.

Highlighting the importance of the legislation, Sandhwan said it would strengthen communal harmony and national unity while acting as a strong deterrent against such heinous acts.

On the occasion of Baisakhi and Khalsa Sajna Diwas, he extended greetings to the Sangat and prayed for the well-being of Bhai Gurjit Singh Khalsa. Leaders of the Morcha also thanked the Punjab Government and the Speaker for fulfilling their demand.

Samana MLA Chetan Singh Jauramajra termed April 13 as a significant day and acknowledged the role of the Samana Tower Morcha in the passage of the bill. He also expressed regret over past administrative lapses.

Several dignitaries, including MLA Kulwant Singh Bazigar and senior officials, were present during the event.
