Panipat: Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dr. Harish Kumar Vashishth chaired a meeting of representatives of all recognized political parties at the District Secretariat on Monday to review the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of the electoral roll. He appealed to all political parties to actively support the campaign to ensure its successful implementation.
Dr. Vashishth said that, in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India, the Special Intensive Revision is being conducted to make the electoral roll more transparent, accurate, and error-free. The primary objective of the campaign is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the voter list while ineligible entries are removed in accordance with the prescribed rules. He emphasized that the active participation of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would help make the electoral roll more reliable and authentic.
He informed that claims and objections regarding inclusion, deletion, or correction of names in the electoral roll will be accepted until August 30, 2026. In addition, special drives will be conducted on August 8–9 and August 22–23. On these dates, all Booth Level Officers will remain present at their respective polling stations from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to receive applications from citizens.
The Deputy Commissioner urged all recognized political parties to collect the draft electoral roll from the District Election Office and work in close coordination with the Election Department during the revision exercise. He said that a clean and updated electoral roll is essential for strengthening democracy, and that the administration, political parties, and citizens all have an equally important role to play in this process.
During the meeting, officials of the Election Department briefed the representatives of political parties about the current status of the Special Intensive Revision campaign and provided detailed information on various aspects of the programme.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ankit Chauksey said that all activities under the revision programme are being carried out in a time-bound manner as per the schedule laid down by the Election Commission of India, with regular monitoring at every level. He reiterated that the objective of the campaign is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll and that the voter list remains completely updated and error-free.
The meeting was attended by SDM Mandeep Kumar, Samalkha SDM Amit Kumar, Israna SDM Navdeep Nain, City Magistrate Teenu Poswal, Election Tehsildar Surender, and representatives of various recognized political parties.
