Congress must apologise publicly for remarks against Governor: Karan Nanda

Shimla:BJP state media coordinator Karan Nanda criticised the protest rally organised by the Youth Congress, stating that the people of the country have strongly rejected the Congress’ “vote thief” campaign in the recently concluded elections. He said the Congress, the country’s oldest political party, has been reduced to just six seats in Bihar, reflecting its declining popularity and public support. If this trend continues, he added, it will not be long before the party disappears from the national political landscape.

Nanda targeted the Congress saying that if theft and democratic values are to be discussed, the Emergency of 1975 stands as the biggest example of the Congress’ assault on citizens’ rights — something the nation can never forget. He added that the Congress has taken several steps in the past that have embarrassed the country on the international stage.

He said the Congress has always pursued divisive politics by pitting castes, communities and regions against each other, following the British policy of divide and rule to weaken the nation. In such a situation, he said, Congress leaders attempting to lecture the country is both laughable and an indication of their double standards.

The BJP media coordinator alleged that Congress leaders specialise in falsehoods and, if there were an Olympic competition for lying, they would surely win a gold medal. He said the Congress’ allegations of dual voter registrations involving BJP leaders and their families are baseless and politically motivated, aimed only at tarnishing their image — an attempt that the people of the state will never accept.

Condemning the Congress’ remarks about the Governor, Nanda said that the Governor holds a constitutional position and dragging the office into politics is unfortunate and disgraceful. He stressed that the Governor of Himachal Pradesh has never misused his authority, yet Congress leaders are trying to politicise the matter. He said the Congress must publicly apologise to the people for its comments against the Governor.
