Panipat: At a time when most children spend their free time on gadgets and entertainment, two brothers from Panipat, Naitik Chopra (Class 11) and Ojas Chopra (Class 8), are setting an inspiring example in environmental conservation. About six months ago, they launched the "Green Panipat, Clean Panipat" campaign and have since planted more than 6,500 saplings, spending nearly ₹2 lakh from their own pocket money.
Inspired by the growing pollution in Delhi-NCR, the brothers pledged to plant one million trees across Panipat. They mainly plant oxygen-rich species such as Neem and Ficus and personally ensure their care by watering and maintaining them on a regular basis. Their initiative has also inspired several other students to join the campaign.
The two brothers have presented saplings to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Minister Manohar Lal, who appreciated their efforts and encouraged them to continue working towards their goal of planting one million trees.
In recognition of their remarkable contribution to environmental protection, St. Mary's Convent Senior Secondary School honoured the students. Father Manager Kartik Abel and Principal Sister Deepa Sebastian presented them with saplings and praised their dedication. Father Kartik Abel said the school is proud of its students for taking responsibility towards society and becoming role models for others.
Former Councillor Ashu Nanda also appreciated the brothers' efforts and appealed to citizens and the administration to support the campaign. He emphasized that planting trees is important, but ensuring their survival through proper care and regular watering is equally essential—a message that Naitik and Ojas are successfully spreading through their mission.
