KURUKSHETRA: University on Thursday organised a plantation drive near the Community Centre under the joint aegis of the Dean Students' Welfare (DSW) and the National Service Scheme (NSS), reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and the creation of a greener campus. The programme was led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva as the Chief Guest, while Registrar Lt. (Prof.) Virender Pal attended as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva said that tree plantation is not merely a ceremonial activity but a reflection of our responsibility towards nature and society. He emphasised that planting trees is not only the need of the present but also the foundation of a secure future for coming generations. He urged every individual to plant at least one tree and nurture it throughout its growth.
Highlighting the importance of ecological balance, the Vice-Chancellor said that trees are the lifeline of the planet as they provide clean air, a healthy environment and a balanced ecosystem. He added that only through collective commitment towards environmental conservation can future generations inherit a safe and sustainable world.
Registrar Lt. (Prof.) Virender Pal said that environmental protection can be achieved only through active public participation. He stressed that planting saplings is important, but ensuring their survival and proper care is equally essential.
Dean Students' Welfare, Prof. A.R. Chaudhri said that every sapling laid the foundation for a cleaner environment and a secure future. He underlined the importance of involving students and young people in environmental initiatives, stating that such campaigns not only create awareness but also nurture a sense of responsibility towards nature among the youth.
NSS Coordinator, Prof. Anand Kumar said that the plantation drive at Kurukshetra University was not just an event but a meaningful initiative to instil environmental consciousness among students and society. During the event, faculty members, officers, employees and NSS volunteers participated enthusiastically by planting saplings and spreading the message of environmental conservation
