Camera captures fully grown leopard near Jubberhatti Airport

December 03, 2025 05:07 PM

Shimla:  Leopard activity near Shimla Airport has intensified once again after a fully grown leopard was captured on a Gobro Camera in the Khalagh area.
Design Engineer Chanakya Sharma recorded the footage while parking his vehicle near his residence recently. This fresh sighting has added to the growing concern in the region. It is noteworthy that a leap of leopards was spotted recently along the airstrip and surrounding forested slopes, indicating sustained movement of multiple big cats in the Jubberhatti belt.

Residents report that the leopard captured on Gobro Camera has been frequently preying on domestic dogs in the vicinity. They believe the animal has become increasingly bold in approaching human habitations during evening and early morning hours.

According to residents, “The leopard seems to be moving with the clear intention of targeting domestic dogs. Several dogs have gone missing in recent days, and people are afraid to step out after dusk.”

The State Wildlife Wing has already installed a trap cage along the Airport–Dwaunti Road, a hotspot for recent leopard sightings. However, no capture has been made so far, and the animal continues to roam freely.

Villagers have urged the authorities to increase patrolling, deploy night surveillance, and take stronger measures to prevent any possible attack on residents, students, or livestock. With repeated sightings and unsuccessful trapping efforts, the situation around Jubberhatti Airport remains tense, and residents are hoping for prompt, decisive action from the wildlife authorities.
