Bilaspur:— District Administration organized a heart-warming and impactful event at Asha Kiran Institute, Kothi, under the Ghumarwin sub division on Wednesday to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The programme, held under the aegis of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, saw enthusiastic participation from more than 250 children with disabilities, parents, volunteers, and representatives from numerous social organizations.

Presiding over the event, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar emphasized that true progress is defined by how society embraces and empowers its most vulnerable. “A society becomes inclusive only when every individual—irrespective of disability, gender or background—is treated with dignity and provided equal opportunity,” he said. He highlighted that persons with disabilities across the country are excelling in academics, sports, arts, entrepreneurship and public services, proving that limitations often lie not in individuals, but in societal attitudes.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening disability-oriented schemes, modern assistive technologies, rehabilitation systems and livelihood opportunities. He assured that the administration remains dedicated to ensuring timely delivery of benefits and removing any procedural barriers faced by the disabled community.

Several organizations, including Naya Savera Divyang Shiksha Sansthan, Mukambika Divyang Trust, and Asha Kiran Institute, showcased updates on their ongoing training, educational support and rehabilitation programmes. Children presented cultural performances, art exhibits and thematic presentations—captivating the audience with their confidence, determination and creativity.

DC Rahul Kumar applauded their talent, stating that their enthusiasm exemplifies the potential of a truly equitable and compassionate society.

The event was attended by Red Cross Secretary Amit Kumar, Tehsil Welfare Officer Ramesh Sharma, Rainbow Hospital Director Dr. Monika, and Old Age Home Manager Prakash Bansal, along with several civil society representatives.

As a gesture of respect, District Welfare Officer Ramesh Bansal and Asha Kiran Institute Manager Yogendra Malik honored the Deputy Commissioner with a traditional Himachali shawl and cap.

The programme concluded with a collective message of commitment—affirming the district administration’s resolve to build an accessible, inclusive and opportunity-rich future for every citizen.
